1. Cyprus: The bird protection operations of our Foundation and the Committee Against Bird Slaughter (CABS) on the island, which have been ongoing since 2010, have almost completely eliminated illegal spring bird trapping with limesticks and nets along the south coast of Cyprus.

Our sustained pressure on illegal migratory bird trapping sites was too great for bird trappers, as were our criminal charges, backed up by evidence.

They have already cost many a bird poacher tens of thousands of euros in fines. Although illegal trapping devices can still be found outside private property, they are usually only activated for a few hours in the morning and evening. And fewer and fewer restaurants on Cyprus offer the forbidden Cypriot songbird delicacy ‘Ambelopoulia’!
2. Sardinia: Almost 2,200 km further west, the danger of our migratory birds that spend the winter in Sardinia dying an agonising death in snare traps has almost passed, except in a few small mountain regions in southern Sardinia.

This is the proud result of 22 bird protection camps carried out since 2010 by our friends from the Committee Against Bird Slaughter (CABS), together with our Foundation, Italian bird protection organisations and a few dedicated carabinieri.
We still need to find out what is on the table as a substitute for the holiday menus of Sardinian gourmets... but as a precaution, we have refrained from asking!

3. Sicily: Our ongoing land purchases for our migratory bird sanctuary Pantani Cuba & Longarini on the southwest coast of Sicily, which now covers more than 440 hectares (4.4 km²) of lagoons, wetlands meadow and embankment areas, has deprived the hundreds of bird hunters and bird poachers who used to operate there illegally of one of their largest and most productive bird shooting and trapping sites.

Even the current arson acts of revenge in the reed belts of the Pantano Longarini lagoon, which have dried up, will not affect the existence of our well-secured and guarded Pantani migratory bird sanctuary!
Committed nature and bird lovers, and we active conservationists, must be aware that it is not the recognition by bird poachers and bird hunters that their actions amount to animal cruelty, but illegal and also criminal that gradually gives our migratory birds more peace, undisturbed rest and food on the islands in the Mediterranean, but only our consistent on-site persistent operations against migratory bird poaching and the continued courageous ‘showing the flag'!

As a result, from the beginning of December, up to 26 bird conservationists will once again be deployed for the bird protection camps in Cyprus, Sardinia and Sicily. These rescue missions will continue with a short break over the festive season until the beginning of February 2025.
We want to carry out our three winter bird protection camps effectively and with a substantial number of women and men volunteers with first-class protective equipment. To achieve this, we need a total of almost 21,000 euros.
Please help us reliably finance the bird protection camp costs with your dedicated donation and thus save tens of thousands of migratory birds from painful injuries, miserable deaths, and cruel caging with associated illnesses. Every rescued migratory bird contributes to the preservation of its species in spring by successfully rearing its young, thus also enriching the quality of life for all of us in our residential areas.

Now that we have successfully completed our first major land purchase, we are ready to make our second. For that, we need your help! to the project
