The Stiftung Pro Artenvielfalt is actively involved in bird protection camps and hotspots of illegal bird slaughter in the EU member states of the Republic of Cyprus and the Republic of Italy, in the latter, the Sardinia and Sicily regions in particular. The illegal bird poaching and unlawful hunting methods are gruesome and cruel to the birds. Such methods violate the EU bird protection directive of 1979, which strictly prohibits unselective bird trapping and killing practices throughout all EU- member states, and the shooting and trapping of strictly protected bird species for keeping them in cages and aviaries!

On the islands of Cyprus, Sardinia and Sicily alone, up to 2 million migratory birds die annually - mostly songbirds such as Song and Mistle Thrush, Blackcap, Nightingale, Flycatchers, Willow Warbler, Goldfinch, European Robin and up to 40 other bird species.
